Best Places to visit in Lahaul Spiti
Lahaul Spiti is a district of Himachal Pradesh was formerly two separate districts and was merged into one in 1960. A famous pass Kunzam pass is the connecting passage to Spiti from Lahaul. This is the 4th least populated district in India.Lahaul-Spiti has lots of Best Places to visit in Lahaul-Spiti which is better to visit in Summer as this place is at higher altitude and mostly covered with snow.
Lahaul Spiti is a high altitude barren desert which receives very low rainfall and thus is very least populated. Yak, Tibetan wolf, Musk deer, Snow leopard are among the fauna species in Lahaul-Spiti. The culture language of Lahaul and Spiti people is closely related to each other.
Lahaul Spiti is famous for its high altitude passes which are an opportunity for the fond of trekking activities and Monasteries such as Tabo etc.Lahaul Spiti is among the best places to visit in India. People of Lahaul-Spiti has their unique dressing style they have their different custom almost different from the rest of Himachal Pradesh.

1 Tabo Monastery
Tabo Monastery is located in the Tabo Village in Spiti of Himachal Pradesh was founded in 966 AD. It is being credited for the oldest continuously Operating Monastery in India. This monastery has a valuable collection of Paintings, Statues, Manuscripts etc.
The original Monastery was destroyed in the earthquake in the year of 1975 and was rebuilt. Tabo monastery is Protected by ASI as a national treasure of India. People who visit Spiti also visit this place to spend some time in the mystic Chanting sounds of the Monks.
2 Kye Monastery
Key Gompa or Key Monastery is located on the hill top of Spiti Valley in Himachal Pradesh is a Buddhist Pilgrimage place. It is the largest Buddhist monastery in Spiti Valley. The sacred chant of Monks “Om Mani Padme hum” cleanse the environment and soul and makes you peaceful and calm.
Kye monastery has a rich collection of Paintings, Statues and miniatures belong to ancient time. People who are interested in Knowing history and different culture should visit this place and discussion with monks will provide you an ocean of Knowledge.
3 Kunzum La Pass
Kunzum Pass is a high altitude Mountain Pass famous for trekking among tourists is a connecting way from Lahaul to Spiti in the state of Himachal Pradesh.It offers the Spectacular view of Bara Sigri the 2nd largest Glacier of the world.
It also has a temple dedicated to Kunzum Devi is also famous among the people who visits here, this place is among the best places to visit in Lahaul-Spiti.
Kaza is a famous tourist place in the remote of Lahaul-Spiti of Himachal Pradesh which lies in the western Himalayas. This place is a high altitude desert just like Ladakh and Leh and famous for its climate and Buddhist culture. Kaza is at the altitude of 11980 sqft on the bank of river Spiti.
Kaza is the largest commercial center in Lahaul-Spiti and is visited by locals for the shopping activities regarding clothes etc. Kaza is famous for its festivals and Ancient monasteries of Buddhists. One way to reach Kaza is through Kinnaur( A nearby place) and another way to reach is through Rohtang pass. this is also among the Best Places to visit in Lahaul Spiti.
5 Tabo cave
Tabo caves are located just above the Tabo Monastery (a very famous Buddhist Pilgrimage) was founded around 1000 years past. These caves were dug for the purpose of meditation by the Buddhists monks. there are flags attached to Caves which denotes that someone is Meditating Inside.
The entrance to these caves is Narrow from outside which leads to Inner rooms best suited for the purpose of meditation.
6 Chandra Tal Lake
Chandra Taal Lake is located in Spiti of Lahaul-Spiti in Himachal Pradesh is at the height of approx 14000 sqft.Chandra Taal is a perfect destination for trekkers and campers. This lake is reached by Foot through Kunzum pass.
Chandra Taal Lake is a magnificent place to look at night, while the temperature drops below zero degrees. This place is the best place to spend some time in peace in the lap of nature in absolute peace and silence.
7 Spiti River
Spiti river flows in Lahaul-Spiti originates from Kunzum pass is famous for its clean water and for river rafting. This river water is fed by Glaciers mostly and flowing through Spiti it meets Kinnaur to Satluj. Major settlements on the bank of Spiti river is Dhankar Gompa and Hansi village.
This river flows through high altitude mountain is itself a beautiful thing to watch and lots of stream along the way meets in this river. There is A lake as well which is famous among locals they consider it sacred and many festivals are celebrated there.
8 Pin Valley national park
Pin valley national park is located in the desert habitat of Spiti in the Lahaul Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh. This park is located at high altitude so the vegetation density is sparse and it mostly has alpine trees and cedar trees. this park also has some important Medicinal plants and 22 rare medicinal plants have been discovered here.
This park is at the elevation from 11000 sqft to 20000 sqft. being at such height it is a perfect place for organizing trekking activities. This park is home to some Snow leopards, Siberian ibex, Himalayan Snowcock.
9 Baralacha pass
Baralacha Pass is a High Mountain Pass in Lahaul Spiti which connects Lahaul to Leh.Bhaga river originates from the this Mountain Pass which is the tributary of Chenab River. Baralacha pass is at the height of approx 16000 sqft.
This pass is the starting point of many Trekking activities eg. Suraj Tal trek and Chandra Tal trek. If you plan to visit Leh Ladakh by road through Kullu Manali Highway you will pass through this place. it is better to visit this place in Summer only due to heavy snowfall in Winters.
10 Dhankar Gompa
Dhankar Gompa is a Buddhist Monastery located in the high altitude village called Dhankar Village. This place is at the elevation of approx 12000 feet from the mean sea level. Dhankar village was the capital od Old Spiti and this village is of Medium size and have their own culture and customs.
