Red Fort Delhi ( Lal Quila )

Red fort is in Old Delhi a historic fort which was the main residence for Mughals kings for nearly 200 years until 1857.  It was constructed by 5th Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in 1639 and the work was completed on 1648.

The fort is plundered by Nadir shah in 1747 and afterward by Britishers during the oppression of Soldiers mutiny in 1857.  The Lal Quila is the site where last Mughal emperor was put on trial by Britishers before sending on exiled to Rangoon.

Every year on the eve of independence day at 15th August prime minister of India Hoists the Indian Flag from Red fort. Red fort is a UNESCO world heritage site.this fort is built on almost 255 acres of land consisting of numerous Palaces inside it which is now converted into the museum and open for the public to visit.

Nizamuddin Dargah is in Delhi which belongs to world famous Sufi saint Nizamuddin Auliya, This Dargah is visited by thousands of people mostly by Muslims every week.Qawwali sessions are held in Dargah every Thursday sunset time namaz. The management of this dargah is looked after by the descendant of Nizamuddin Aulia.

Old Fort (Purana Quila)

Old Fort Purana quila

Old fort or popularly known as Purana Quila is one of the oldest Fort in Delhi. It was Built by Sher shah Suri and is very extensive in size. It is having a lake adjoining to it where Boat rides are offered and you can find people enjoying Boat rides over there.

The old fort is historical monument site of which most of the part is diminished only ruins of the citadel are standing there. once it was the crown of Delhi is now on the verge of losing its existence. ASI has done many excavations at Purana Quila sites and has unearthed gray painted jars, belongs to 1000 BC.

during the partition of India this site was used for refugee camp this included between 12000-15000 Govt. employee who opted for Pakistan and 150000-200000 Muslims families.

Kutub Minar or Qutb Minar

Kutub Minar or Qutb Minar is located in Mehrauli Delhi and is the tallest rubble masonry minaret. The height of Kutub Minar is 73 mt and it is having 379 steps inside to reach its top.  Qutb Minar was started by Qutub-al-din-ai bag the founder of slave dynasty in India and was finished by Iltutmish his son in law after his death.

Qutb Minar is surrounded by lots of historic monuments Like Iron Pillar, Alai Darwaza etc.According to a Persian inscription which is  still on the inner eastern gateway, states that the mosque was built by the parts of twenty-seven destroyed Hindu and Jain temple built previously during the time of Thomas and Prithvi Raj Chauhan

India Gate

India gate

India gate also known as All India War memorial is situated on Rajpath in Delhi formerly called Kingsway. India gate is dedicated to 82000 Soldiers died fighting in World War 1 (1914-1921) and third anglo afghan war.The India gate was designed by Edwin Lutyens, who was not only the main architect of New Delhi but a leading designer of war memorials.

India gate is 42 meter tall with hexagon complex, with a diameter of about 625 meters, covers approximately 306,000 so met in an area. If you come to visit Delhi I will request you to visit this place where Our brave soldiers’ name is engraved on this Minar. Go there and pay your homage to these brave who sacrificed their lives just to keep us safe. So for me, this is among the best places to visit in Delhi.

Jama Masjid

Jama masjid delhi

The Jama masjid is one of the largest mosques in India situated in Old Delhi just opposite to Famous Red fort. This Mosque was constructed by Shah Jahan between 1644-1656 with three gates and four towers. The courtyard of this mosque can accommodate around 15000 people.

The mosque has been under attack of two times, one in 2006 and another in 2010. During the first, two explosions had happened in the mosque resulted injuring thirteen people. In the second, two Taiwanese students were injured  when two gunmen opened fire upon them
